(Jhum Reap Sour ) How are you doing? we give honor to the Father in Heaven and are so thankful to Jesus our Savior. I’m working in the Children At Risk Project, there are a lot of challenges, like how to live by faith and trust God for daily needs. I’m a staff member of University of the Nations, Cambodia, a ministry of Youth With a Mission . I am in the processes of starting a Children’s community Center in the Takeo Province. helping children like my self, to know God better and to share about God with others around my Village. I will share some of my testimony and what God had done in me to experience Him in my emotions and how He has humbled me. I also thank God that he is honest, great, and amazing and that he has chosen me to serve Him.
At first, I grew up in non-Christian family. I was born in the province of Kampong Cham one year before the Khmer Rouge come to power (1974). In 1980, my relative and parents went to live in Phnom Penh. My father was an officer in the Government in one of the Cambodian provinces. My father had two wives, his first wife gave birth to me. My mother worked hard and was always busy sewing clothes to earn money for my schooling. I have 2 brothers and 4 sisters and I’m the fifth child born in my family. In 1986, my father died, leaving his two wives and ten children without anyone to look after them.
I did not finish university or learn any other vocational skills, so it has been difficult for me to find a job around town and to help my mother with the finances she needs, because she is unable to support me any more. One time I approached an employment agency to find work and I managed to get a job at a gas station, but had to work for 12 hours very day. Then one day, I rode my bike to the English school where I met my old friend; he invited me to eat Khmer cakes at the street shops and we began to discuss our lives and how we have been doing. He shared his happiness following Jesus and honoring Him. I was very interested in what he said and asked him questions. One of my thoughts was, “why did foreigners wanted to change our Khmer Culture and look down on Buddhism?” He told me that I needed Jesus. So I decided to receive Jesus Christ in my heart and on 08 August 1996, I was baptized. From that day on, I went to New Life in Christ Church. Not long after, I began teaching Sunday school to the children. Afterward, I went on to study how to teach Sunday school to the children, and I finished my scholarship. Then I to applied to work with the Pre-school of New like in Christ Church.
Four years later God called me to do a school with YWAM in the Philippines. During my time in the Philippines in 2001, I learned many important lessons that helped me to understand God more. My visit in the Philippines also prepared my heart to start serving Him and people. Last year in 2006 I did the Leadership Training school course with YWAM in Bangkok Thailand on how to write the Project to began a Children’s ministry. Thanks !
Samol ‘s life:
The three years and eighth months during Pol Pot’s time was like living in prison without the wall. I had to work very hard as a young girl ( 7 years old), digging the lake, collecting the cow’s excrement…..Sometime I was punished ( standing on one leg under the hot sun from noon time until evening without having lunch) because I was not able to finish my work for the day. When the Pol Pot regime was over, I still lived with my aunt but this time my mom and three brothers were living together with my aunt’s family. In 1989 my mom died, my life was really hopeless but I still lived with my aunt. In 2001 my life was getting very hard, so I decided to find an easy and hopeful way. One day my friend brought me to Church in Phnom Penh city. First I did not like people in the church though they were very friendly because I already had my own religion. Later on I saw them worship their God with joy and happiness and I started to wonder what is in their lives.
Day by day my Christian friend always came to my house and taught me Christian songs, my heart began to fill with joy and peace. One day I decided to invite Jesus to come and change my life and be my personal Savior. In the church I served God as a cook. The Lord had changed my life and I was given an opportunity to study in a YWAM school, call DTS as I mentioned before. This school was like an eye opener to me. I knew God better through this school and now I am living a life with purpose.
After Samol finished the DTS school we desired to get married on January 31st, 2004.We applied to the University of The Nation to work full time so that God could raise us up to help Children to know Jesus. in Our Vision we would like to see Children in “Takeo” Cambodia accept Jesus Christ as their Savoir, to have close relationship with God and to be connected with other believers. Thank you very much for your time. Please do deep in touch. May our Heavenly Father bless you and be with you! I hope I will see you in Cambodia.
